This 8 week programme is an in-depth introduction to mindfulness that draws on best practices from Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and the Western mindfulness tradition as well as integrating elements of the Plum Village Approach to mindfulness developed by Thich Nhat Hanh and the monastics of Plum Village.
This course is for participants completely new to mindfulness as well as novices with significant experience.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness offers us a way to bring stability and calm to the mind. Rather than drowning in the moods and emotions that wash through us, or being dragged away from the present moment by an endless stream of thoughts, mindfulness offers a way to regain mastery of ourselves - to regain our personal sovereignty. We come back to the present moment and encounter life with awareness.
Mindfulness offers us the opportunity to be fully present, in body, mind and space - calmly acknowledging and accepting our feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations without judgement, and with kindness and compassion both for ourselves and others.
Mindfulness can be cultivated through proven techniques, such as sitting, walking, eating, and moving practice. By practicing mindfulness, we gain insight and awareness through observing our own mind, and most importantly, our body - developing the vital aspect of attention and attitude.
Mindfulness meditation gives the opportunity to cultivate a natural curiosity about the workings of the mind, approaching our experience with warmth and compassion to ourselves and others.
